Data deletion

You own your data and can have all of it deleted at any time. This page describes how to request full account deletion and what happens when you do.
Delete a single recipe
From My recipes, click the trash icon on any card. The recipe and its photos are soft-deleted immediately and purged permanently within 30 days.
Delete your whole account
Send an email to privacy@iwant2eat.com from the email address on your iwant2eat account with the subject line:
Delete my account
We will confirm receipt within 2 business days and complete deletion within 7 business days. You do not need to explain why.
What gets deleted
- Your login account (email, password hash, display name, avatar, preferences).
- Every recipe you saved — text, ingredients, steps, notes, original source text, source URLs.
- Every photo attached to any of your recipes.
- All additional email addresses verified for recipe ingest.
- AI usage history associated with your account.
- Any Stripe customer metadata we hold (we ask Stripe to detach the customer record on your behalf — to fully close the Stripe side, you can also contact Stripe directly).
What we keep (and why)
- Minimum tax and accounting records required by law — typically a 7-year retention on invoice totals and dates, with personally identifying fields redacted.
- Security logs (IP addresses, user-agent strings, failed-login attempts) for up to 90 days, to investigate abuse.
- Rolling encrypted database backups roll off within 30 days; your data is no longer queryable after live deletion but may persist in backup tape until the rotation completes.
Signed in via Google or Facebook?
Deleting your iwant2eat account also removes our copy of the Google / Facebook identifier we received from you. To revoke iwant2eat's access at the provider level, visit your Google account's third-party access settings or Facebook's app access settings and remove "iwant2eat" there.
